Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 20, 2026
This policy describes how the Leafbox outliner for Windows (distributed through the Microsoft Store) and this website (leafboxapps.com) handle your information. In short: Leafbox keeps your outlines on your device and does not send them, or anything else, to us.
Your outlines
- Your documents, folders, outlines, bookmarks, and settings are saved only on your computer, in the app's data folder (using the storage of Microsoft Edge WebView2, which Leafbox uses to display its window).
- They are not sent to the developer's servers or to any third party. This version of Leafbox has no feature that connects to the internet, and it is built so that it cannot connect to any server.
- Copying, pasting, importing, and exporting happen on your computer. Files you export are saved where you choose.
Backups
- Leafbox saves backups of your outlines as JSON files in
Documents\Leafbox\Backups: one each day (the last 14 days), when you choose “Back up now” (the last 10), right before you restore from a backup (the last 5), and right before an update changes how data is stored (the last 3). - Backups stay in that folder even if you uninstall Leafbox, so you can restore your outlines after reinstalling.
- If your Documents folder is synced by a service such as OneDrive, your backups are synced too, according to the settings of that service.
Deleting your data
- Items you move to the trash can be restored. When you delete an item permanently or empty the trash, its contents (text and titles) are erased; only a marker that the item was deleted remains.
- Uninstalling Leafbox removes the app's data folder. Backups remain in
Documents\Leafbox\Backups; delete that folder if you don't need them.
Accounts, sync, and AI
This version of Leafbox has no accounts, no sync, and no AI features, and it does not ask for your name or email address. Sync across devices and connecting your own AI (MCP) are planned. Before we offer them, we will update this policy to describe what they handle and how.
Analytics and advertising
Leafbox does not collect usage analytics, does not send crash reports to us, and does not show ads. This website does not use cookies, analytics, or advertising, and it does not load anything from third-party servers.
Microsoft
- The Microsoft Store handles installing and updating Leafbox, ratings and reviews, and crash and usage information that Windows reports. Microsoft handles this information under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
- Through Microsoft Partner Center, the developer can see aggregated statistics provided by Microsoft, such as the number of installs. These statistics don't identify you.
- Microsoft Edge WebView2, a part of Windows that Leafbox uses to display its window, is also covered by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
